"Remember me and smile...

... for it's better to forget than to remember me and cry."

~ Dr. Seuss

(From Friday, June 1st, 2012)

Hi, all.  In a matter of hours, I'll be retired, at the statistically young age of 57. I don't feel as if this is an end to anything, interestingly, but a new beginning. I hope this change will mean that I can spend more time doing what I love, and with the people whom I love, not the least of which are you.

Below, you'll find the so-long note that I will shortly release at work. ...

We were bikers... my buddies and me.

Posted by Tommy Blumenfeld on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, In : Musings

Greets, everyone.

The other day, as I was visiting the vintage motorcycle forum to which I belong, I encountered some prose that had been written and shared on the forum by someone whose web acquaintance I'd had the pleasure of making a little while ago.  During that time, he and I have had a few pleasant exchanges - mainly bike related - but one or two were a little more personal.  I'd previously shared with him what I do avocationally, and that I also happened to enjoy writing, and perhaps o...

Happy New Year to all!

This is mainly for Mel, but others of you may be interested as well.

One of the guys on the classic motorcycle forum to which I belong is a sculptor by the name of Juan Balandran.  I don't know Juan, but there was a link to his site and blog in one of the threads on the bike forum.  I visited both out of curiosity, and I found that, though must of his work is not entirely consistent with what I have been "programmed...

Hello, everyone!

One of our 'Scopers shared an act-of-kindness presentation that's more than just worth seeing; it should be a mandate... a staple in everyone's "Kindness Kit".  :)  I hope you enjoy it!

Self-harm: A Bit of Thusly Inspired Verse

Posted by Tommy Blumenfeld on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, In : Musings

Hello to all.

It occurs to me of late that, of all the struggles that peeps at HopeScope have grappled with over the years, self-harm is one of the most - perhaps the single most - intractable.  We have had a fair mount of success in managing it, or even sometimes eradicating it, over the years, but there is no magic bullet.  Harnessing or banishing self-harm seems to have more to do with the harmer coming to understand, accept, and love themselves than trying to purge some resident demon.  Th...

Bad science elbows good sense out of the way...

Posted by Tommy Blumenfeld on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, In : Musings

Hello to all.

I thought it might be useful to share here a link to what has developed, on the Forums, into a mature and useful discourse among adults and young people on the matter of the emergency contraceptive, known as Plan B, being withheld from over-the-counter status for girls under 17 in the United States.  The decision is controversial because it seems to have been taken unilaterally, and because it has been taken on the advent of an election year, but most importantly, because of what...

Change For A Dollar

Posted by Tommy Blumenfeld on Sunday, December 4, 2011, In : Musings

Hello to you.

One of our 'Scopers shared a video on the forum that imparts a beautiful and sorely needed sentiment any time of year, but it seems especially fitting at the Holidays.  That said, without further ado, I'd like to share it here as well.  and Happy Holidays to you.

Sharing 'Scopers' Creativity

Posted by Tommy Blumenfeld on Sunday, November 22, 2009, In : Musings

Greetings!

At our former HopeScope Family Online gateway site, which had become very difficult to upgrade and back up because of my time constraints and limited knowledge of DotNetNuke (hence my current experimentation here at Yola), we have been proud to host some of the creative efforts of our members over the years.  We have 'Scopers who write prose, poetry, those who play music, and some who are involved in visual arts.  As an aspiring guitar player, I have also occasionally shared some of...
